What is there in man's mind?
What force doth linger there?
That prods a man to brutal deeds,
And leaves him hate to spare.
What rewards are there in hate?
The rivers flowing red?
The ruins of cities fair?
Or peace should men await?
What prompts man to seek fulfillment,
In power that would destroy,
When love can heal the strife,
When love men would employ?
'Twas in swaddling clothes a truth was born,
Which survived the tests of time.
"Do you love your neighbor as yourself,"
And the bells of peace will chime.
Let me survive and made alive,
By the power of noble love,
Verified by a sacrifice,
As prompted from above.
